Introducing the Dural Repair Kit

Synertech’s single use Dural Repair Kit can be used for multiple or running stitches. Each box contains 5 individual kits containing sterile instrumentation that’s always available and ready to go.

Dural Repair Kit

When spinal surgeons are operating, it is often in close proximity to the dura (the membrane that covers the spinal cord). This membrane can occasionally be punctured or torn by a surgical instrument or the dura can simply be adhered to surrounding tissue and upon separation, a dural tear can occur.

When a dural tear occurs, the surgeon will likely stitch the dura using micro instruments, as it requires a very small needle.

A dural tear can cause stress and tension in the operating room, and in such an environment it is not uncommon that:

1)  The micro instrument set is not in the OR and may be difficult to locate.

2)  A vascular surgeon has used the set and the spine surgeon is forced to use alternative, often inferior, instrumentation.

Synertech will therefore provide the following in one easy-to-use, single-use, sterile procedure pack:

·   7” Micro discectomy bayonet forceps

·   7” Micro discectomy scissors

·   7” Micro Needle holder with lock

·   6.0 Polypropylene suture with round body and ½ 15mm needle

Benefits

·   Surgeon always knows there is a pack in OR

·   New instruments that work every time

·   Single-Use sterile - Always ready to go

·   No processing or sterilization costs

·   Saves time and money, therefore cost-effective

·   Reduced stress for Physician and OR team

·   Safer for patient to use correct instrumentation

·   Increases productivity for the operating room

·   Positively impacts OR times and overall hospital efficiency

Why single-use, sterile instruments?

There are a number of generic benefits that single use instruments bring:

·         Cost effective: no costs of sterilization, reprocessing, repairs or replacements

·         Time saving: no counting and checking instruments, assembly in certain cases, lost instruments, ripped trays

·         No chance of cross contamination: reusable instruments have the potential to transmit prions, bioburden, and infection if not properly cleaned

·         Reduction in energy costs for transportation and reprocessing

·         Overall Risk reduction: Reduce the risk of SSI’s, future hospital costs and litigation

·         Improve OR time: less equipment to set-up and clear away
